HOLD FAST… August 28, 2006

Hope: desire accompanied by expectation of fulfillment

Unswerving: not turning aside, steady, unfaltering

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”  Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)

“So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgment of it, for He who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.”   Hebrews 10:23 (Amplified)

Today I am reminded that because of my faith, I am infiltrated with hope…a hope that is unflinching and will not end for it is eternal. My faith is not in myself but in the Living God.  There are days that if I look only to the realities circling my feet, I am discouraged and despairing.  I need to adjust my gaze and look upon the Lord and His lens on life.

I can glance around my four walls and find struggles.

I can put a foot upon my porch and stare heartache and broken dreams in the faces beyond my lawn.

I can travel miles in my mind and be overcome by the unanticipated hardship of those I love.

The headlines recount the latest bloodshed of people that I will never know.

Yet today…I have hope…I serve a God that sees long and broad and knows the future.

One day He will wipe away every tear.

One day there will be a new heaven and earth.

One day there will be no more pain.

One day I will be finished with this life of frailty…I will be complete.

Today I have hope…enough to spill over to tomorrow.

I have hope in a God that is in control of all things that concern me and all that does not.

“This was so that, by two unchangeable things (His promise and His oath) in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled (to Him) for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed us and set before (us).

Now we have this (hope) as a sure and secure anchor of the soul ( it cannot slip and cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it–a hope) that reaches farther and enters into (the very certainty of the Presence) within the veil.”    Hebrews 6: 18, 19 (Amplified)

Today, my prayer for you is that you would hold fast to the very Presence of the Lord and know that wherever you find yourself today…there is hope and it is a sure and secure kind of hope.  For a vessel to be anchored securely, the anchor must drive down into the depths of the sea…that is how strongly you can hold fast to God’s promises and His plans for you!

Be of good courage!

Helen
