I am just beginning the No Other Gods study as well and I am sure that is why 2 Kings 12 about the high places was so convicting to me. It is wonderful that not only are we reading chronologically together but are also doing No Other Gods too!

Thank God for His mercy and grace. And I agree...how sad for King Jehoram. That's a pretty intense message on the wages of sin.

I'm going to take a look at the Kelly Minter study when I get a minute, it sounds wonderful.

Your idea of a relaxing day closely resembles mine...I'd probaby end up grabbing something crunchy and salty, too. ;)

Your words touched me deeply with conviction over false idols--that sounds so harsh, so I prefer to call them anything else-not idols-idols are bad. I know He is orchestrating every move as He unveils Himself so beautifully to each of us. Your thoughts challenge me, and without a doubt, it is the best decision I have made in a long time to read with you chronologically the Bible. It has been a life-link this year and a place of refuge. I am so glad you're back! Love to you, Annette

"How is it that a passage from the Word, that I have always loved, suddenly intensifies that affection because its context is rightfully in place…"

I know well that feeling my friend. I never realized until reading the Word through how much fits together. How much the whole counsel of the Word of God affects our daily lives - helps make sense of life and events. And the context, it certainly sheds new light as to the verse or verses that are so familiar.

I have much to grow in as far as applying it... some days I wonder... but it is the work of the Holy Spirit as I learn to yield. And oh how I need that!

And what is it with "J" names in the Bible, huh? We have a bit of that in our family.. My husband and both sons and our dog start with "J", except for me :)

And like you said, it makes you wonder how godly King Jeshosaphat's son could go soooo astray and then die in misery and shame. The bottom line is each of us is held resonsible for our actions. We are all accountable to God. I come to Him for His mercy and grace. Oh I don't deserve it but He freely forgives - Praise God!

I once told someone who commented about how painful it must have been with my first husband's death in a car accident. We had been chatting while our boys played. I said something then that only could have been a response from the Holy Spirit. I did not plan it. I said, "There are some things more painful than death - going out into eternity without God."

Steadfastly looking to Jesus,
Your friend,
Susan

Beautiful Helen...you have the heart of the passage and may you embrace it on your patio and in your kitchen and in your all parts of your heart. For you are so right...Kelly calls it split lives and I call it parallel lives that don't even touch but co-exist. And we can rid ourselves of idols and seek Him with all our heart and be fully committed just like Asa and still have places that we make our own plans, our own alliances. It's not about behavior; it's all about repentance. And I couldn't agree with you more that this decision to read chronologically has been one of the best things for me this year! I've met people like you who challenge me to think and see what I hold dear in my heart. What passion rules my heart this morning? And like you said, it could be a good passion, a good thing, but it could be greater than that one holy passion. Sorry this is so long. You made me really think and long and that's good. So good you're back and we're in this together!
