My favorite Bible is missing its cover and is too fragile to use daily anymore.  I thought it would be fun to go through and record some of the verses I have underlined over the years…

FOR THIS GOD IS OUR GOD FOR EVER AND EVER;
HE WILL BE OUR GUIDE EVEN TO THE END.”
                                                      Psalm 48:14

  • Genesis 50: 20-”You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
  • Leviticus 11: 44-”I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.”
  • Numbers 23: 19-”God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.  Does he speak and then not act?  Does he promise and not fulfill?
  • Deuteronomy 6: 4-9-”Hear, O Israel:  The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates.”
  • Deuteronomy 33:12, 27-”Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.”
“The eternal God is your refuge; and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
  • Joshua 1: 6-9-”Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.  Be strong and very courageous.  Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.  Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

  • Psalm 61: 1-4-”Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.  From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.  I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”
  • Psalm 63: 1-8-”O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will will glorify you.  I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name will I lift up my hands.  My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.  On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.  Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
  • Psalm 73: 23-28-”Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.  You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you take me into glory.  Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.  But as for me, it is good to be near God.  I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your good deeds.”

  • Ecclesiastes 3: 11-14-”He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.  That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil–this is the gift of God.  I know that everything God does will endure forever’ nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.  God does it so that men will revere him.”
  • Ecclesiastes 7: 13-14-”Consider what God has done:  Who can straighten what he has made crooked?  When times are bad, consider:  God has made the one as well as the other.  Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.”

  • Isaiah 50: 4-5 (a word given to me a few years ago and it still humbles me…I love this scripture)-“The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.  The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back.”

  • Isaiah 55: 8-13-”For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts not your thoughts.  As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.  You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.  Instead of the thorn-bush will grow the pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.  This will be the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed.”
  • Isaiah 58: 8-9a,b,11-12-”Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.  They you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help and he will say: Here I am.”
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.  Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”
  • Isaiah 61: 1-4-”The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion–to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.  They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”
  • Jeremiah 6: 16-”This is what the Lord says:  Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

  • Jeremiah 24: 6-7-”My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land.  I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.  I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord.  They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.”
  • Jeremiah 29: 11-14-”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you.”
